Quirks: They make us who were are

Quirks Deco 1

Quirk, as we are going to talk about it here is described by dictionary.com as:

a peculiarity of action, behavior, or personality; mannerism: He is full of strange quirks.

We all have them, there is no denying that. Some of them are more interesting than others, some are nearly normal but they are what make us, us and therefore are actually quite important. I myself have many different ones. Did you know that I’m incredibly private but at the same time want everyone I come across to be happy and feel liked? It makes it an interesting situation – I believe I should get to know everyone but at the same time my instinct is to run and just hide with those I’m most comfortable with. That I have to get up right on the 00, 05, 10, 15 etc minute of each hour? Yes some of them might be embarrassing – those are just some of my quirks, some can be cute, some just annoying but what matters is how we deal with them.

I believe I should get to know everyone but at the same time my instinct is to run and just hide with those I’m most comfortable with. I deal with this one by often having two of each things – I have two twitters for example. One I deal with all of my ‘blogging’ and public stuff but my other one is a lot more private. To give you an example the first one has nearly 500 people I follow on it, the second one has less than 20. It allows me to get to know people but at the same time have a place where I can speak my mind to those that I trust.

Get up right on the 00, 05, 10, 15 etc minute of each hour – I usually just do it anyway but if I end up staying in bed too long I force myself up, same if I have to get up for something. Convince your brain that it is that time.

I’m positive that you all have your own quirks too – after all they are the things that make you, you. We need to accept them as they are apart of ourselves and not be embarrassed by them – after all we all want to be ourselves. How boring would it be if we were all the same after all?

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Image from hi5comments

Saint Patrick’s Day (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig) is a religious holiday celebrated internationally on 17 March. It is named after Saint Patrick (c. AD 387–461), the most commonly recognised of the patron saints of Ireland. It is observed by the Roman Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion (especially the Church of Ireland), the Eastern Orthodox Church and Lutherans. Saint Patrick’s Day was made an official feast day in the early 17th century, and has gradually become a celebration of Irish culture in general.

Saint Patrick’s Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Newfoundland and Labrador and in Montserrat. It is also widely celebrated by the Irish diaspora, especially in places such as Great Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand, among others.

Little is known of Patrick’s early life, though it is known that he was born in Roman Britain in the 4th century, into a wealthy Romano-British family. His father and grandfather were deacons in the Church. At the age of sixteen, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken captive to Ireland as a slave. It is believed he was held somewhere on the west coast of Ireland, possibly Mayo, but the exact location is unknown. According to his Confession, he was told by God in a dream to flee from captivity to the coast, where he would board a ship and return to Britain. Upon returning, he quickly joined the Church in Auxerre in Gaul and studied to be a priest.

In 432, he again said that he was called back to Ireland, though as a bishop, to Christianise the Irish from their native polytheism. Irish folklore tells that one of his teaching methods included using the shamrock to explain the Christian doctrine of the Trinity to the Irish people. After nearly thirty years of evangelism, he died on 17 March 461, and according to tradition, was buried at Downpatrick. Although there were other more successful missions to Ireland from Rome, Patrick endured as the principal champion of Irish Christianity and is held in esteem in the Irish Church.

Originally, the colour associated with Saint Patrick was blue. Over the years the colour green and its association with Saint Patrick’s day grew. Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick’s Day as early as the 17th century. He is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish, and the wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs have become a ubiquitous feature of the day. In the 1798 rebellion, in hopes of making a political statement, Irish soldiers wore full green uniforms on 17 March in hopes of catching public attention. The phrase “the wearing of the green”, meaning to wear a shamrock on one’s clothing, derives from a song of the same name.

These aren’t even all of them, just some of the more major (and not so major ones) that I could find. As you can see though as the years progress we are getting more and more natural disasters and it really is quite scary. The weather is changing – Winters are colder, summers are colder AND hotter than normal. We in Melbourne had the coldest summer on record while Western Australia had their hottest. Queensland had the wettest. The Earthquakes are picking up and the whole world is just changing.

Who knows what will happen next? What is undeniable though is that the Climate is changing quickly and drastically.

*You will notice that the Christchurch earthquake isn’t listed as I just included the Earthquakes over the magnitude of 7.0. Christchurch was 6.3

An apology and a question: Plus some random pictures!

Picture from witchgirl117 on Deviant Art

Picture by braunaudio on Deviant Art

First of all I would like to apologise for my silence, I’m just completely exhausted the past few days and the lack of a proper post this time around! I hopefully shall get one up tomorrow before school.

So a question to all of you bloggers out there – how do you find yourself not repeating posts over and over again? How do you keep creating new content for your blog that doesn’t get old. For the jewelry makers and the like I can see it being easier than the writers but even then you seem to be able to vary your posts quite a lot so it doesn’t get boring. I readily admit that is one of the hardest parts about blogging – especially as I’m not all that creative, I find thinking outside of the box hard. I’m very a + b = c and find it hard looking at things big picture. I do try though and while I think I’m getting better I do have a long way to go. So how do you all do it?

Into Camelot: A clothing store based in Western Australia

If you have friended me on facebook or follow me on twitter you will have seen a couple of days ago me squeeing about a website called Into Camelot, therefore it won’t come as a surprise that I just had to do a post on them. I was talking to my friend Kel who linked me to the website when we were talking about corsets and she showed me her wedding dress which I completely and utterly adore which she got from this company.

Into Camelot was designed in 1993 by myself, Joyce Campbell. Camelot was born from an idea of bringing romantic clothing back into womens hearts. The shop is reminiscent of a castle, rambling over two levels. We create our own designs with other labels being complimentary to our theme.

We like to cater for woman in all her beauty regardless of age, shape or size, especially on that magical day – her wedding. We would love to help you by creating the dress of your dreams.

The store has a wide range of clothes under various labels in including Agincourt, Kaitlin, Fairytale, Witchery and Cortestry. It also stocks clothing for Knights and Children as well as throwing Castle Camelot Parties for young children. All of their clothing is reminisce of that found in the early 1000′s or their respective era. They also sell accessories, wraps and capes to cover the dress if you need it! All of their gowns are interchangeable with the styles and all of them are made specifically for you so you don’t have to worry about it not fitting perfectly.

Some examples of their works is as follows:

As you can probably tell, Into Camelot aims to bring alive the romantic clothing of the centuries gone past for ladies of any age or size.

*All images are copyright Joyce, the owner of this website who was kind enough to let me use them in this blog post.

A Guest Post by Millie: The Grand Adventure That Is Life

She
by Ilina S

Hi there – my name is Millie and I write for Reality Escapes Her. If you read Alex’s blog here at all, you will be aware that she tends to reffer to me quite a lot, we’ve become good friends via awesome things such as NaNoWriMo, Harry Potter fandom, and Twitter where we are constantly flooding the timelines of our mutual twitter friends (or fritters as I’ve come to see them, thank you very much Frank Iero!). Now that Alex is back at uni and work are actually calling her in again, things are a little frantic for her. So for today, I have offered to do a guest post for her. When I made this offer, I had nothing particular in mind, I just wanted to help a friend.

This morning though, I’ve been doing a great deal of pondering about life. How it truly is what we make of it for ourselves, and how it is one big adventure that just keeps on going until our dying day. Even if you’re a hermit (something I frequently attempt – especially when I’m exceptionally moody!!), there are still things we need to do in our lives to keep on going, and things that we see that can impact on our lives and our thinking. Everything has a positive and a negative side, so I guess a lot of how we take these things has a lot to do with our mindset.

For so many years now, I’ve been really down on myself: “I could never do that”, “I’m just not good enough”, “There is no way something awesome like that will ever happen to or for me” – but lately I’ve been trying to cancel these thoughts out. It’s been a long ongoing process that I started a while ago when a friend declared to me that she was going to become my positivity instructor. It was a hard slog for both of us, because the negative has become such a part of who I am. Like most (if not all) of us, I’ve had some awful things happen to me. For me it has been nearing a decade ago that it all started, and it’s been really hard to move on, for me to just let it all go. I have very strong Christian beliefs, and I know that has helped me a lot – but my mind being naturally drawn to the creative appeal that melodrama and theatrics seem to hold, latched onto those things and made the problem so much bigger than it really was (which was awful, because I went through things I firmly believe no-one should ever have to go through). So like I said, it made things very difficult for myself and my friend-turned-poisitivity-coach.

Slowly, it began to work though – I started seeing the world wasn’t really such an awful place. Of recent times I’ve started re-developing an interest in things – because for so long I lost hold of my sanity and all the people and things that actually inspired me. I have people I look up to again, I have inspiration. It was quite sudden when we ticked over into 2011 – it came quite out of nowhere and seemed quite odd that it happened so quickly at the beginning of the year – and suddenly it was like a weight was lifted from my shoulders. I can see a future full of big adventures ahead of me again. I’m more prepared to try new things and take risks – even if at times they are utterly stupid!

I work as a teacher’s aid at a school specifically for children with autism, and last year it reached the point where I hated it. I didn’t want to do it anymore. It wasn’t until the last day for the year, when I had to say goodbye to the children I’d been working with, that I realised I actually loved my job – I adored the children and loved the feeling that perhaps I was making a difference in their lives in hepling them to cope with the challenges ahead of them. What I don’t like is the minimum 3 hours of transit every day, feeling like I’m grossly underpaid for what it is that I’m doing, and after all that transit – the feeling of exhaustion I have at the end of the day, and moreso at the weekend. It makes me moodier than I ordinarily would be and my productivity slumps. I become grouchy and unpleasant to be around, and my dreams of starting to work as an online shop selling handmade goods seems impossible. I haven’t changed any of this yet – instead I’m practicing being more aware of myself, and trying to take better care of myself. Unfortunately my plans were thwarted when I was injured first week back to work this year and I’ve so far worked very little (my shop is underway though – which is a good use of my free time, yes?) – but I will continue to try.

Anyway, I think I’ve rambled enough now – one day I might post more about how life is an adventure, and make it not so Millie!central. The future is bright, my lovelies! ♥
